The Most Basic and Important Dessert: Chocolate Chip Cookies!

So on Friday it was going to storm and I had to take a practice test (one week from MCAT!).  While walking home from the metro I had a craving for some chocolate chip cookies.  Since it was a Friday and I didn't have to be up early the next day, I decided to make the old favorites after I finished my test.

Delicious with a big glass of milk!

Now I use the recipe my mom wrote for me in my recipe book, but basically it is the Tollhouse recipe on the back of every bag of Tollhouse chocolate chips.
This is the great page from my recipe book!

Ingredients!  Nothing too out of the ordinary.  In a perfect world I would use Ghirardelli chocolate chips, but any chocolate chips are better than none!

So first I added some of the dry ingredients together in a medium bowl and set it aside.  This included the flour, baking soda, and salt.

Then comes the real batter.  I took the butter that had been softening on the counter since I got home and put it in a bowl with both the brown and white sugars.

This got blended on medium speed until creamy.  My butter probably could have been a little bit softer just to make the mixing a little easier, but it still turned out just fine.  This mixing can be done with either a hand mixer or a standing mixer, whatever you happen to have or prefer.

Then I added the vanilla, mixed a bit, one egg, mixed more, and the second egg, mixing thoroughly.

Almost last I added the dry mixture from earlier in increments, I think about 4-5, mixing in between each one.  You don't want to add it all at the same time for several reasons, one of which being the giant flour cloud you'll get if you try to mix the whole thing at once!

Finally the last and best ingredient.  Chocolate chips!  I just dumped the bag in and mixed as best I could with a spoon.  Don't use the mixer for this part!
Yum!  Of course I did a taste test; delicious!

Then comes my least favorite part: shaping the dough into balls and putting them on the cookies sheet.  It takes awhile, I can never do it perfectly (unlike my mom who is master cookie shaper, hers are always perfect and beautiful), and I just want the cookies to be ready!

Put them in the oven for 9-11 minutes or until golden and yummy looking!
Yum yum yum yum yum!

Remove to racks to finish cooling, do some dishes and enjoy!

I prefer a big glass of milk, ice cream is good too!

As an update, my test is 6 days from today so it will all be over soon!  I hope to get back in the cooking and blogging saddle soon after my test, so look for more and frequent posting soon!

Thanks for reading, as always,
Liz
